Hello,
I’m Billy, a 21-year-old sports journalist, currently based in Manchester. I have recently graduated University Academy 92 - famed for its links to Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’ - earning First-Class Honours in sports journalism, awarded by Lancaster University. I’m now looking to make my way into the industry.
Sport has always been a pivotal part of my life, whether it be watching my beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers, watching England play cricket in the middle of the night, or watching motorsport, most notably Formula 1 and speedway. Becoming a sports journalist was always the plan!
Having experience with publications such as VAVEL, Local TV and Deep Extra Cover, I have always aimed to get my work published while still studying at university. This has led to me receiving opportunities to report from events such as County Championship cricket, Football League matches and speaking to Team GB’s young cyclists.
Away from my written work, I have experience in public speaking, having hosted a Q&A session with famous commentator Clive Tyldesley in front of my peers at UA92.
University was an enjoyable experience, allowing me to work with esteemed journalists Phil Jones and Mark Lomas on a day-to-day basis. Their experience and guidance has helped me become a much more confident and polished journalist.
